Schools have told us, and our reviews and pre-accreditation visits have shown us, that those schools that have approached Professional Development in a planned and systematic way are accelerating the learning of their children. It is usually the schools that have placed Professional Development high up on the priority list, that have the greatest impact on learning across the school.
It is so crucial; that time together for CPD. The IPC CPD was superb. If you’re going to do the IPC then go for it and do it properly and make the most of the CPD that’s available. It helped us to really understand the IPC completely. It’s the first time I’ve ever felt part of a learning community.
Peter Pretlove, Head Teacher, Bransgore C.E. Primary School
I felt that we needed to get a full understanding of the IPC before we started teaching it. So we had two days in the summer term and worked all the staff up to KS3. Our first PD focused on how to fit the IPC into the school. It helped us all to see just how rigorous the IPC was. The teachers came away from this buzzing about it because they now really understood what they were going to be working with. This was a very powerful tool. In our second PD we planned our first half term of IPC units and trialled some of them in a mentoring process so that we all felt very prepared for the launch. Sustaining the IPC is essential. We need little and often to keep our focus and maintain our momentum and for when the IPC is new to new staff.”
David Allison, Head Teacher, St. Matthew Academy
Our IPC PD was the best external PD that actually made a difference that we’ve ever had.
